Rural Business Centre, Scalby

The site is in an area of natural beauty, and within the area of heritage coastline. The proposals to convert the existing buildings at Scalby Lodge Farm, Scarborough, to a rural business centre

We have also retained and reused original features where possible and exposed original openings by the removal of modern additions to the farm. We feel this enhances the buildings and their setting.

We have maintained original features in walls and to the roofs including air vents, stone copings and stone flag eaves details. We have also provided windows and doors, which are timber framed and set in reveal to emphasize the wall thickness.

The overall design approach has been to retain the agricultural feel of the existing group of buildings which is primarily a 19th century brick and stone farmstead under pantile and slate roofs. There are a number of 20th century additions in the form of steel frame agricultural buildings which we propose to demolish and replace.
